HP reveals its Ultrabook

HP intends to launch the Folio 13 in Asia-Pacific and Japan next month. Prices will start from US$1,099, which means that it won't be the most affordable Ultrabook in the market. From our short hands-on with a pre-production unit, it felt a bit chunkier than its competitors, but we did like that its screen has a thin bezel. The Folio's success could depend on whether it lives up to its touted long battery life.

HP has also refreshed its premium Envy 15 laptop with a new chassis design and updated internals. It's an incremental change, but the company seems to be focusing on the audio aspect with the new Envy. The Envy 15 has a "retro-inspired" aluminum analog volume dial for the Beats Audio and it also comes with six speakers and two subwoofers.
Another new feature is a backlit keyboard with individual LEDs for each key. This is paired with a proximity sensor that triggers the backlighting when the user is close enough. HP also claims to have improved the responsiveness of the laptop, with a boot-up time of 21 seconds.
Internally, the Envy 15 is powered by an Intel Core-i processor and users can upgrade up to a quad-core i7. It uses AMD's next-gen Radeon HD discrete graphics while internal storage include HDD and SSD options. According to HP, getting the SSD version will yield a battery life of up to 9.25 hours, while the HDD option is rated for up to 8 hours.
It will be available from December at a starting price of US$1,499.
